I truly love all of this, and also, just wanted to share the synchronicity of being exposed to “Story of the Eye” twice in close-ish succession (here and in the lyrics to Of Montreal’s “The Past Is A Grotesque Animal”), and now I’m thinking, should I take the plunge? Should I read “Story of the Eye”? What are the risks? What are the benefits? Torment…..
I’ve heard a few good Of Montreal songs, but I can’t recall their names just now, I think one was called “An Eluardian Instance”? I personally wouldn’t sweat Story of the Eye, I think it’s skippable, frankly. It’s a classic “I guess.” It’s gross. The benefits are you can say you’ve read a piece of damaging pornography from history. There must be better Bataille books.
